At 2 years closer to fifty, I realise now that I’m action-oriented. Especially lately, as I struggle to stop rolling my eyes whenever I am in or hear conversations about trends and theories.
Watch this video for some truly wonderful insight about listening and understanding different point of views. As humans, our opinions are shaped by experiences and surroundings. We come in, usually very strongly with our own way of thinking. Sometimes forgetting that others have their own, usually different beliefs.
Viewpoints can fall into the trap of oversimplification. The only real way to get them to see your views is to listen to theirs. When you do, you will find that their values are often very similar to yours.
A good life is built with good relationships. In the end, what makes a good life is in the deep relationships built along the way. Beyond money and success, having good relationships matter in physical and mental health and longevity.
Rainbow Chasing: A person who is out of touch with reality. They chase dreams that are too old for or are not talented enough to be chasing ~ Urban Dictionary
Chase Rainbows: If someone chases rainbows, they are trying to achieve something they will never achieve ~UsingEnglish.com
However, respectfully I disagree with the two definitions above. Life’s meaning is not in the destination that you get at the end, but in the things gained from the journey taken.
Over her birthday dinner last night, daughter Sarah asked what my motto in life is. Without hesitation I answered; “always find a way”. That’s my motto, and that’s also what I advised her. And to anyone else asking, this answer remain the same.
Always find a way – to make something out of nothing. Challenges happen, it’s part of living.
Always find a way – to turn problems into solutions. We’ll always be called on to give advice.
Always find a way – to see the other side. We won’t fully understand things unless we’ve walked a mile in them.
Always find a way – to practise patience. The world is moving fast enough, stop and enjoy the moment.
Always find a way – to be nice. When we start with a smile we get smiles in return.
We’ll just disappoint ourselves if we think being happy is an end goal. Happiness is a state and it can be achieved even if we don’t think it’s there.
Always find a way. Because life’s hard. Just never give up trying.
One step further in to a more quantified self! This Fitbit Charge HR, integrates with my Fitbit.com, Garmin Connect, Strava and MyFitnessPal accounts collecting and quantifying the activities that I’ve been up to since 2010. I track mostly my runs, walks and cycling as well as tracking my daily calorie intake.
If taking into account my Nike+, Dailymile and several others (either dormant or deactivated), my activity data would have gone further back. But these have either been dormant or deactivated altogether. For the simple reason that as I started collecting more data, I needed to declutter the entry points. Eventually aggregating it all into TicTrac into one interface.
